Ontario A-Go-Go Tour Diary

Phew, made it! Yet another successful trip around southern Ontario, full of fun and... well, interesting times.

We left on Thursday towards Toronto, and stop number one was at the CD plant to pick up our new discs. Unfortunately when we got there, we ran into a problem we could never have anticipated - the company who we ordered from had apparently not been paying their bills, so the plant couldn't release the CD's to us. They were, however, nice enough to let us have one box of 30 to get us through the weekend. So with that, we headed downtown to get some food at the Green Room. I was halfway through a really awesome chicken curry, when I started noticing that it smelt really good in there. A bit like a campfire, actually. Not 30 seconds later, the server came upstairs and told us that the basement was on fire, and we had to get out. It lasted all of five minutes until the fire was out and we could come back in to finish eating. Crazy!

Then we headed to the Cadillac lounge, and caught the tail end of Ancient Chinese Secret. It's a new project from Brian Connelly, the former guitar player from Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, of whom I have been a huge fan for what feels like forever. Between their sets, we gave him a copy of our new disc, and he stuck around for our show, which was very cool of him. Super great guy! And I totally resisted the urge to break out any Shadowy Men riffs during soundcheck. Anyway, the show went really well, I got to spend some time with Amy (which doesn't happen often enough) and it was good times all round.

Friday we headed off towards London to play at a place called the Alex P Keaton. Yes, named after that Alex P Keaton. It was a pretty small place (the bottom floor of a house, actually) with fantastic microbrews (too bad I was driving that night, otherwise I might have been in microbrew heaven) and there were quite a few people around when we started playing. People seemed really into it for the first 25 minutes or so, and then suddenly, everybody disappeared. We found out later that the Alex P is where most people go to start their night before heading somewhere else on the main strip, so I guess we just started playing a little bit too late. Still, good times.

The next day we headed to Oshawa to play once again at the Velvet Elvis, which is just a great little show space there. It's also a converted house, but the main floor has a lot less furniture than it did last time we were there, which opened the place up a bit and made it seem bigger somehow. Anyway, we had some people turn up from last time we played there so we definitely had some friends around, which was cool. It actually turned out to be a small gathering, which was actually really cool. And the next day, we headed back to Ottawa again.

This week has also not been without it's share of excitement. We were in the Sun yesterday (although not online, it seems), and The Citizen has a write-up on the new album in today's arts section. Jeff and I are also going to be on CBC Radio this afternoon, sometime around 4:30pm, if anybody happens to be listening in around then. And then this Saturday is the big one - the CD release at Irene's. That'll be good times for sure.

And I just had confirmation from the plant in Toronto that we will, in fact, have CD's available. Finally. Because really, what good is a CD release without CD's?
