Recording, More Placid Adventures & The Blacksheep

It's been a tremendously busy couple of weeks, so apologies for the long delay between updates.

The weekend before last, we (The Reverb Syndicate) went in to the studio to record our second album. We were struck with chaos right from the get-go, when we got to our rehearsal space to pick up our amps, and found the door padlocked, with no possibility of getting inside. Jeff was okay using a bass amp at the studio (which is pretty much the same model amp anyway), James managed to rent a Vox AC30, and I used a Fender Super Reverb which was already in the studio. I'd never actually used one before, but I managed to get a pretty cool surfy tone out of it, which wasn't a huge surprise, being a Fender and all. It started getting a little grittier by the end of the session as the tubes got hotter, but overall I think it sounded really good. We blitzed all day on Saturday and Sunday, got all the tracks recorded, and then took a week away from it.

Last weekend was B's last weekend in the country before jetting off to the UK, so we decided to make a last jaunt down to Lake Placid on Saturday night. We had intended on going camping, but then decided that since it was raining quite a bit, that we'd try to find somewhere warm to stay instead. Little did we know that it was Columbus Day weekend in the States, and everywhere was completely booked up. We still managed to make it to the campground, although just in time as they had already started closing up, but at least we weren't sleeping in the car. Anyway, it actually stopped raining, and we ended up having a great night of camping, fire and New York microbrews.

The next day, we spent some time meandering around town, and took our time driving back to the border. Fall has definitely arrived in upper New York state, and we stopped a couple of times to get out and take some photos. We made it back to Cornwall for a thanksgiving dinner with B's family before heading back to Ottawa for the night. Then it was Monday - departure day! We had a late morning, croissants, some coffee, and then went to see Into The Wild, which was a beautifully shot (although quite sad) movie, but definitely worth it. Shortly after that, we were on our way to the airport (by way of my parents' place) and Bridget was off on her UK adventure.

It's been a pretty busy week since then. We had another marathon mixing session on Tuesday night, and the tracks keep sounding better and better the more I listen to them. We're also playing at the Black Sheep this Saturday night with My Dad vs Yours, which should be an awesome show. We've rented a bus to bring people up there (The Bolskevik Bus!) and we're going to be playing a completely random set. People are going to be invited to pull a track name from the martini shaker, and whatever it is, we'll play it. It should be a really interesting night.

And now we're all up to date! I'll try to get some pics from the Black Sheep show to post up next week. Until then, Mahalo!

Ah, I had forgotten about that movie for about 5 seconds. As soon as I read your blog, I just thought about the old man again!
At least I've stopped crying. Like, a week later.
Send BlackSheep pics!
