Sputnik and The Syndicate

October 4th, 1957: The Soviet Union launches Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite to be put into orbit, and ushers in the space race with the United States. Sputnik 1 weighed 184 pounds, measured 22" in diameter and circled the earth every 1hr and 36 minutes, sending a series of repetitive beeps heard by radio operators around the world. The New York Times has a great feature in their science section this week about the Sputnik launch, and the impact it had on politics, science and even pop culture. (Definitely worth a read!)

September 22nd, 2007: The Reverb Syndicate goes to Montreal to play a show at Le Quai Des Brumes with local surf-ish band Surferigno (who are absolutely fantastic). This show marks the first time that TRS plays all our new material in a fantastic venue for a warm and receptive audience of about 75 people.

September 29th, 2007: The Reverb Syndicate will go in the studio for the weekend to record our second full-length album entitled Sputnik A-Go-Go, only a week shy of 50 years after the Sputnik 1 launch. It seems like a fitting tribute that we're making this record on the anniversary of this momentous leap forward for the space age.

Go Sputnik!
