Politics... Music Progress... Chuck Norris...

I was just thinking, for someone who lists themselves as a "political news junkie", it's odd that I haven't ranted about politics on this blog up until now. That's probably because I've been a bit uninterested in the election this time round. Oh, sure, I saw most of the English debates, read the transcripts of the French ones, and flip through CBC's site in the mornings for the most up-to-date campaign gaffes, but I'm just having a hard time maintaining any sort of focus. Maybe that's what happens when you have an election every year and a half; it's feels a bit like having your birthday party three times a year.

I think the biggest difference is that I'm just not as worried about the outcome this time around. Sure, people are going to throw votes at the Reform Party  Canadian Alliance  Conservatives, mostly out of angst. But if they do win, it's going to be a minority, and then they will then be completely unable to pass any sort of major legislation, since their platform is just too neocon for any other party to support (except the Bloc, who will support cash payments to the provinces, but that's where it will end) and eventually they will get non-confidence'd on a budget no other party will vote for.

And has anyone seen or heard from Peter MacKay recently? His website hasn't been updated since October 2005. Maybe Stephen's got all the Red Tories tied up in his basement for the duration of the campaign.

I did find a pretty good article about Stephen Harper from the Toronto Star, which I guess is what inspired that short burst of punditry.

Or maybe I'm just trying to avoid any lengthy discussion about the solo album. Well, there isn't a ton to say, really, although I'm still spending the bulk of my spare time on it. I'm a few songs into it now, and I'm finding it interesting to look at my writing stripped down (ie, just acoustic guitar & vocals) because I've started noticing little stylistic nuances I seem to have developed somewhere over time. I've also discovered that the best time for lyric writing is between 1-4am. (If I ever started doing this full-time, nobody would ever see me because I would be up all night, every night.) In other news, I've got my new consender mic on order, so I'll start being able to record things soon; right now this album isn't much more than some scribbles in a notebook.

Anyway, next up is a little bit about being in Albany last weekend, I just have to get the screenshots done. In the meantime, here's a little snippet from here (which apparently has already made the rounds and skipped me):

"Crop circles are Chuck Norris' way of telling the world that sometimes corn needs to lie the fuck down."
