Walking in Dalkeith

On Saturday, B and I took a bus out to the town of Dalkeith, a small town just southeast of Edinburgh. Our walking book had suggested a walk through Dalkeith Estate just a few minutes off the High Street, so we thought we'd go check it out. We ended up finding a whole lot more there, including a whole network of trails, some old stables, and even an "Adventure Woodland" which reminded me a whole lot of the Ewok village. We ended up doing two complete trails, and part of another which connected them together. The only difficulty was staying on the trail, since the trail markers were very few and far between, and we inadvertently strayed from the path and got a bit lost at one point. Eventually we ran into some blue markers pointing towards where the trail was supposed to be, presumably placed there for people like us who went the wrong way. Anyway, the trails let through wooded areas, through some fields, down by rivers, and through part of the ancient Caledonian Oak Forest. Very good times.

I decided to do a captioned slideshow for this one. (Or alternately, the photoset is available in a plain version here.) So click on the man with the bear-like dog to begin!
