In True Canadian Style...

It occurs to me every winter that it's been so many years since I've gone skating. And being in Ottawa means that I have access to a canal only 10 minutes from my house. It's almost silly that it's been about 15 years since I last went skating. I just never got around to picking up skates... until last weekend, when I did in an early Saturday morning pre-coffee stupor. I then decided to attempt skating home, which turned out to be far less disastrous than it could have been, although it only lasted about 10 minutes.

Anyhow, yesterday I decided to go back to the canal to refine my skills further, and I think I did pretty well. I actually stayed out there for well over an hour. No falls, no injuring small children or any other grand-scale disasters caused by my lack of skating proficiency. I also took some pictures while I was out there (in part to prove that I actually did it) and posted them on my Flickr Photoset. I personally like this one best.

Skating is really zen. There's something oddly calming about skating up the canal for no particular reason. I am, however, in a bit of pain today. But it was worth it.

As a side story, I went out for dinner in Chinatown with Moddy yesterday, and got the awesomest fortune ever. Well, I don't think this even qualifies as a fortune, but I had to post it anyway. So I leave you with this ancient piece of Chinese wisdom:

Duh. I'm in a Chinese restaurant. Good call, Confucius.
