Fun at the German Christmas Market

I guess I would be remiss if I ignored the fact that I haven't written anything whatsoever this month. To be honest, work projects really started getting in my face in December, and couple that with the fact that there hasn't really been a whole lot to write about, just been doing lots of Christmas preparations... well, you get the idea.

In Edinburgh, there is a German Christmas market every year, which sets up stalls around Princes Street near the art museum. The little booths sell little toys, incense burners, nutcrackers (nußknackers!) as well as various foodstuffs and - my personal favorite - mulled wine (Glühwein!) Many a fine evening was spend in December walking around the Christmas market drinking Glühwein laced with a shot of Rum. That, my friends, is what Christmas is supposed to taste like. Fantastic! Here's where it comes from.

Down below in the gardens is the skating rink where B has been working all month. The big dome in front is the German Spiegeltent, where they have all sorts of variety shows (none of which I was really interested in though) The ferris wheel was pretty impressive when it was lit up, too.

Christmastime in the UK seems to have a much different angle than back home. In Canada, it's largely a big commercial event where the big thing are stores that stay open really late. Over here, there just seems to be more emphasis on fun at Christmas. I kind of like it that way!
