On Saturday, we decided to take advantage of a "free admission" weekend of
Historic Scotland sites, and spent the afternoon at one of the primary attractions here -
Edinburgh Castle. I've been wanting to go inside since we got here. You can see the castle from pretty well anywhere in downtown Edinburgh, and the lure of a 900+ year old castle on top of a hill is a bit hard to ignore. When we got there, we found that there were quite a lot of people with the same idea as we had, but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. Still, I'd like to go back sometime when there are less crowds around. And there are still quite a lot of things inside that we didn't have time to see, so I think it's definitely worth another trip.
Anyway, rather than typing boringly about the castle, I thought I'd just post another
slideshow to best convey the full effect (or you can access the
plain version if you'd like.)
Afterwards, we headed down the Royal Mile to the World's End for dinner (where we had our first taste of
haggis last month) and had some awesome food, including a
vegetarian haggis appetizer for B. (I tried a little bit too, and we all agree it was quite good.)
