So, the big news from this week: we've moved into our new apartment! We sorted out all the paperwork and got the keys on Monday, and we've spent most of this week just settling in and adjusting to the new digs. This place is pretty awesome. It's about a five minute walk away from the Royal Mile, which is where most of the pubs are here, and within walking distance of pretty much everything. The street we're on is a really quiet, cobblestoned road too narrow for cars, so we don't have any traffic noise either. It covers two floors, the main floor and the basement, and has more character than any apartment I've ever lived in.
Anyway, I could go on and on talking about it, but I thought I'd put a
photoset online instead. So go
check it out!

It also has two big couches in the living room, and tons of floor space. You know, in case anyone wants to come visit us anytime. And now that I have a permanent office with an internet connection (which is a saga unto itself, and possibly the subject for future blogging) I should be able to write more, since I'm not dependent on finding free wi-fi in pubs and coffee shops anymore.
And on a completely unrelated note: happy Leap Day, everybody! According to
Wikipedia:
There is a tradition that in 1288 the Scottish parliament under Queen Margaret legislated that any woman could propose in Leap Year... Another component of this tradition was that if the man rejects the proposal, he should soften the blow by providing a kiss, one pound currency, and a pair of gloves (some later sources say a silk gown). There were similar notions in France and Switzerland.
So, to my unwed female friends, this could be your chance! And to my unwed male friends, if this worries you, then maybe you should pick up some gloves on your way home today, just in case.
Mahalo!

Mike and B - your place is fantabulous!!! I definetely can't wait to come and see it this summer - hurrah for you!!!!
Nice place! Glad to see you're all set up :) I certainly do like that red door, and the lack of snow is certainly most excellent.
More fun for everyone!
