Too Hot to Blog

That's my excuse, and I'm sticking by it.

I was going to post last week all about my four-day Canada Day weekend, but that seems like such a long time ago that I think I missed the chance. And now here we are a week and a bit later.. so here's a brief recap : hiking in Gatineau, Lynx games, world cup, fireworks, eye-toy ninja skills, birthday parties, writing, and the last day of the Jazzfest. There, I'm nothing if not concise. Sounds like I had a pretty good weekend.

And the good times continue on. I dove in and picked up a Bluesfest pass, since I'm planning on being there all next weekend for sure, and I really wanted to go see Calexico on Friday night. It was fantastic; these guys played absolutely brilliant southwesternish rock (which makes sense for a band from Tucson, Arizona I suppose) I was just floored. I think I'm going to pick up their new album when I go to get the new Sufjan Stevens album. (Out today! Listen to the stream of part three) And I got to see The Acorn on Saturday before hooking up in the evening with some awesome people for martinis. Cool!

On the topic of buying music, I entered very dangerous territory today when I bought my first album from the iTunes music store. Apple just makes it way too easy to buy music from them. I think I felt my credit card trembling in fear as I punched the numbers in to create my account, and within a minute I was downloading an album I've been trying to get my hands on in one way or another for over a year now.. "Winner" by Big Boss Man. They're an awesome hammond-funk-go-go band from the UK and finding their CD anywhere in North America is pretty much impossible... Amazon doesn't even carry it. I've listened to their first album to death since I found a copy at Select-A-Disc on Berwick Street in London (Look on the cover of Morning Glory by Oasis. See the swirly black shop sign on the left-hand side right by the edge of the picture? That's Select-A-Disc.)

Coming up: mostly working on stuff for the Reverb Syndicate record. Oh, and we have a show on July 22nd at Irene's Pub on Bank St. And I've got an entire weekend of Bluesfest coming up. I'm not making any other plans this weekend. I'm haven't decided if I'm even going to bother going home. I may just camp out there overnight.

Odelay!
